そう言えば、柳田國男って普通選挙の導入に必死になって、昭和の初頭に普通選挙が行われた後で、「日本人なんて所詮、魚の群れじゃねぇか」と。なんも考えないで、皆のあとを付いていって、しかも中心的人物がいないよね。魚の群れってリーダーがいるわけじゃないですから、「皆で一つの方向に泳いでいくだけじゃないか」っていうふうに憤って。それでも柳田はまだ、選挙システムや民主主義っていうものが日本に可能じゃないのか、可能になっていくような枠組みみたいなものを作るべきなんじゃないかと言っていて。そういう柳田を僕は未だに好きだけれども。その時の柳田國男の「魚の群れじゃないか」って言った感覚が、すごくしっくりきて、多分あの時ずっと、「土人、土人、土人」、と言っていたわけですよね。
